Cat
Is Sleeping -

Scapey's Essay/Intro to the song:
OK, um, so like—this is my last song for the year, and its supposed
to be like the pinnacle of my learning for the year, and I totally
think it is. If you’re wondering why I say that, it’s because
it’s
totally true, and I can prove it, so there.
First of all, once upon a time, I did a song called “Rolododododo”.
This was a heartbreaking song about a monster, but the best part is totally
the breakdown part, where it gets all emotional and it like gets to the
core of the human/monster/cat experience. That’s the part about
a monster following you, you know that part. And this song totally gets
to an emotional place, just like that, except not about a monster following
you, but trust me—you will hear the emotion in it for reals.
Next I did “Brushing” which was about getting brushed. Even
though the assignment was about being like Shonen Knife, what I learned
instead was about how I can write about things from my actual life. I
don’t know if you know, but I really do like brushing! It really
is really good! Well, this new song is about my real life, too,
serious.
The next song was one called “Rubik’s Heart”. This was
a thing from the 80’s, it was like a block of color squares and
you’re supposed to turn it and make the colors line up, but in the
song, I was pretending it was like a heart that was made out of one of
those things, so you’re turning the heart and if the colors line
up it’s like the girl loves you. This is called a metaphor. In this
song, I learned about something my dad calls thematic punning, where you
use lots of different words related to the main thing. I sort of did that
in this new song, but without the metaphor, I was just talking about the
thing I was talking about, but with words about it, too.
“Merry Christmas (If You’re Lucky)” was my next song, and
that was about Christmas, but it was also about making the listener
sympathize
with me. I think you will sympathize with me even more on this
song, because this song is one about a really tender subject that
I think everyone can
relate to, ok?
Next was “MF”. That one was a ballad, but this one is not
a ballad. But what was the best part of “MF”? I mean the song,
not the real MF. Real MF, the best part is eating it. The song “MF”,
the best part was the part that really rocked. The part with the
distortion and the hard rocking. I think you will see that this song
really rocks
a lot, as well.
My last song was “Silent All These Years”. That was a cover
of someone else’s song, so I did not write it. But from that, I
learned how important it is to make a song kick ass even if it is a boring
song. This song is not boring, and I don’t think it ever could
be, but I made extra sure it is super-awesome anyway.
So, like I said, this is my final song, and it’s totally like showing
off what I learned, duh, as you can see.

Lyrics:
I’m a good sleeping cat, so just let me lie
I’ll open your flesh, you make me open my eye
You’ll get the cat scratch fever and you won’t know why
You want to wake me up? You just try
You’re making me mad, I’m tired of taking this crap
Don’t wake me up, no, don’t wake me up
What’s a cat got to do to take a five hour nap?
Don’t wake me up, no, don’t wake me up
Leave me alone, don’t lay a finger on my fur
Cause if you mess with me now, you won’t get no purr
You’re thinking I wouldn’t mind, but don’t be so
sure
You see this look on my face? It says do not disturb
You’re making me mad, I’m tired of taking this crap
Don’t wake me up, no, don’t wake me up
What’s a cat got to do to take a six hour nap?
Don’t wake me up, no, don’t wake me up
You say that sleeping all day is something you don’t allow?
It’s called a catnap motherfucker and I’m taking one now
You’re gonna get my hiss instead of my meow
The only reason you should wake me is some moist cat chow
You’re making me mad, I’m tired of taking this crap
Don’t wake me up, no, don’t wake me up
What’s a cat got to do to take a seven hour nap?
Don’t wake me up, no, don’t wake me up
You’re making me mad, I’m tired of taking this crap
Don’t wake me up, no, don’t wake me up
What’s a cat got to do to take a eight hour nap?
Don’t wake me up, no, don’t wake me up
